Times, they are a changing.
In a previous blog I gave some insight into my current working environment and expressed the possibility of going out on my own. Since that blog post I have been working and getting in position to do just that.
In the last week I have taken a state exam to get a required certification. I am responsibly confident that I did well enough to pass (fingers crossed). Also, because I have an amazing relationship with my direct manager, I have given an unofficial heads up notice to my employer that I will be moving on soon. Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t have gone out on that limb with my employer. However, my manager and I have a very close relationship and I’m trying to give him as much time as possible to get prepared and find a viable replacement. In addition to these steps I have also spoken with my tax accountant to get some guidance on proper business structure to make sure I don’t get a massive tax bill when tax season comes around.
Needless to say, this past week has been a roller coaster of emotions. Add to that the stock market madness and making preparations for the start of school for our son! This weekend was a much needed break and we are spending it in our RV doing what we love.
The month of August was supposed to be a financial windfall for us because of how our pay cycles fall. But with all of the additional expenses we are incurring for school start up, the senior year of high school is ridiculously expensive and even more so if your child is an athlete. And now business expenses for a business I haven’t started yet means August is not looking good for us financially.
While this month might be expensive, now I think it will benefit us greatly in the long run. My current work environment is not a healthy one and the negative impact on my health is not worth the price. Additionally, my family sees how this environment is affecting me and that in turn has a negative effect on them. On top of that, if I’m going to work long hours it should be to the benefit or our family and not to our detriment.
All said, I am very excited to set out on my own. It’s something I have always wanted to do but never felt the time was right. Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing support of Mrs. RVF as she is the real driving force for positive change in our household.
I will continue to update the blog as life unfolds.
