On The Road Again……..

All of the major hurdles cleared and the sale of our home closed on time. Yeah, I remember this feeling from the last time we sold everything and hit the road in 2021. It’s very easily summed up. Oh shit!!

Once we got the all-clear, we immediately went into action. We set up our new domicile address, rented a storage unit, changed our driver’s licenses, changed our vehicle registrations, set up full-timer’s insurance and worst of all, started packing. I HATE packing!!

We had less than two weeks to get everything packed up, moved into storage and have our RV ready to roll. Loading up the moving truck and then unloading it into our storage damn near killed both of us! I don’t think I have had that hard of a workout in a decade and the days afterwards were painful.

With everything happening so quickly and having to meet a deadline we didn’t get a chance to decide where we were going. The only thing we knew was that we were going west. So when the day came to leave that’s what we did. We headed up to the nearest interstate and headed west. Talk about winging it!!

Eventually we decided it was best to take a familiar path and headed to Southern Utah. This would at least allow us to take a few days to exhale, visit family and get better organized. Of course, we ended up arriving just as the remanence of tropical storm Rachel made its way into the area. Which is fitting because our RV looks like a hurricane hit it inside with all of the stuff we piled into it.

It’s been windy and rainy, but at least we are not sitting in the sweltering heat anymore. The hot Texas summer started in April and still wasn’t done when we left. I think we went almost 50 days without a drop of precipitation and pretty much every day was between 100 and 110. So this is a welcome change.

After our stay in Utah we are going to do exactly the opposite of what full-time RVer’s should be doing at this time of the year. We are going to head north! While it sounds crazy to drive up to the Pacific Northwest right now we would really like to see our son. So we are going to brave it and drive to his location, which is somewhere between Seattle and Canada.

Once there, we will be staying on a week-to-week basis. Our little RV is not built for the cold weather. Unlike our mobile mansion the plumbing is on the outside and exposed to the weather instead of being tucked into a heated compartment. If we could make it to Thanksgiving that would be the best-case scenario. It would be great to spend the holiday with our son. After that we have no plans other than to go south. The joys of RV life!! Wing it until you can’t.

Since we have been crazy busy and had to drive 1,200 miles I am behind on the financial blogs. As such, I will do my best to get to the Q3 update blogs as soon as possible. As much as I would like to get them done we only have a few days to see family, get organized and get a tooth fixed. Yeah, I had a tooth break while I was driving so now I get to see a random dentist in Utah. Wonderful!!

With our limited time before hitting the road for another 1,200 mile drive the blog might have to wait until we get to Washington. The next financial update will not reflect our home sell as it closed after Q3 ended. But, I will go over what than entails on the blog.

So here we go!!! We are on the road and living the full-time RV life once again. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about how this will play out in such a small RV. And while we are excited to start a new adventure we are also sad about leaving the home we built and absolutely loved.

My fear is that I will never live in a home or in a location that I loved as much as what we just left behind. Only time will tell. Until then, we will enjoy this new adventure.

Thank you for reading our blog. Wish us luck!!

Happy Trails!

Joe
