November 2023 Financial Update

Welcome to our November 2023 financial update blog! There have been so many ups and downs this month it’s hard to know where to start. So let’s just jump on in and let it rip.

If you have been keeping up with our adventure you know that we thought that we found our forever home here in Texas. Read about it here if you need a refresher. You also know that after some negotiations it became clear that we were not going to be able to make a deal. So we walked away. That really sucked, but it was definitely for the better.

After losing out on the bidding we had resigned ourselves to just enjoying what we have. Maybe taking a break from the grind of looking and researching was what we needed to do. The whole thing was just stressing us out anyway. That’s not what we live this lifestyle to do so we stepped back. Well, that lasted about a week.

Make sure to follow us on X (Twitter) and Instagram for updates as they happen!

Long story short, we were put in contact with the builder of the home. After speaking with him, and patching up some of the tension from our last negotiation, he agreed to build a home for us. It will be in the same subdivision with all of the same amazing amenities. We just had to find the land where we wanted to build and purchase it. As of this moment we have done just that and we are just waiting for the property to close.

We will probably do another blog outlining how this whole thing went down as there is so much more to the story. As we said there was some tension from the previous negotiation that both sides needed to get over and talk out. In the end this is a win win for everyone. The builder gets to build another house and make more money. We get the home we want, where we want it and now on the land of our choosing.

And best of all…………… it’s going to cost a heck of a lot less than the original place! Yes, you heard that right!

We love the area and are really excited to build the home we want. And when we say area, don’t get us wrong. It’s not like we are building next door to the other property or something. That would be a bit odd. We are talking in terms of acres as it’s not some cookie cutter neighborhood. A lot of the homes can’t even be seen from the roads. Think long tree lined driveway up a hill.

We will do our best to get a blog posted in the next week or two. As you can imagine between this and our work-camping schedule things are a little crazy.

Now let get to the details of our November 2023 financial update!

Our Portfolio Performance November 2023:

Portfolio = $1,447,987

Our Portfolio Increased By $109,003 or 8.14% From The End Of October

Year-To-Date Our Portfolio Has Increased By $123,360 or 9.31%

Net Worth = $1,511,041

Our Net Worth Increased By $108,472 or 7.73% From The End Of October

Year-To-Date Our Net Worth Has Increased By $131,213 or 9.51%

Holy cow, what a month! We haven’t had a $100k move in a single month for a very long time. And usually when we do it has been to the downside. After three consecutive months we were optimistic about a rebound month, but this was even better than expected.

With this large move in November it’s a toss up for December’s direction. Normally heading into the last month of the year we would feel that 2023 is going to end on a high note for the markets. That is certainly still possible, but there could be some tax loss selling and more profit taking now as well. And let’s not forget about the blabber mouths at the fed and the destruction they cause.

One thing is for sure, the timing of a nice market run couldn’t be better for us right now!

Our Spending for November 2023:

Monthly Budget = $5,000

Total spend for November 2023 = $4,480

Over/Under Monthly Budget = $520

Over/Under Budget YTD = $562

Prepaid Site Fees = $0

Net Over/Under Budget YTD = $562 Under Budget

We continued to keep our spending in check despite some additional unplanned expenses. Those expenses included a couple of rental cars to drive up north so we could look at properties. We also had to purchase a couple of plane tickets to Las Vegas. Our son has a long memory and is holding me to a promise of a 21st birthday trip to sin city that was made long ago. Promise made, promise kept.

Going forward our update blogs might become a little convoluted as we move through the home building process. To start, we will have the property purchase which will hit us in December. After that the construction phase will start and that is a whole different set of rules.

As a result our budget and investment accounts are going have some large movements. We are trying to decide the best way to tie this into the blog. We might just keep reporting our regular budget as a core expense and then separate the home stuff. Then we could make sure we are not overspending on a base case.

On the investment side that will probably just continue as is and have some wild swings. We are paying cash for the land so there will be a large drawdown in December. The construction side will be interesting as it depends more on what the builder needs. We will do the best we can as we like to remain transparent.

These are very exciting times and we look forward to starting a new phase of our adventure. We love the RV life and there is no giving it up. This is not going to be the end of our RV journey, but new beginning with a different strategy.

Once everything gets settled down we fully plan on continuing our travels. We love seeing everything our country has to offer. There is also a lot left on our bucket list of places to go and things to see. The only difference will probably be the means of transportation. And we have a few ideas after being on the road for three years and seeing how others do it. Also, considering the locations we have not visited yet it will be a big plus to have more flexibility. Stay tuned……..

That’s a wrap for our November 2023 financial update. Thank you as always for reading our blog!

See you on the road!

  1. Congratulations on starting your next adventure! I look forward to reading about your home building experience and how you plan to finance it all. We’re on a similar path to sell it all and travel, seeking a final destination. We hope to launch in the next 5 years or so.
