In this edition of our campground review series we will be reviewing Sunrise Ridge Campground located in Hot Springs, SD.
Sunrise Ridge Campground is located off of highway 385 just outside of the historic town of Hot Springs. We booked a one month stay in the month of July 2023 and chose this location because we needed to be within driving distance of Rapid City. We prefer a quiet small town over being in a city. And quite honestly there’s not much to choose from that are decent and have a reasonable price in South Dakota.
As athletes age there naturally comes a time when the conversation turns towards trying to determine how much one has left in the tank. Eventually, athletes begin to ponder life after their sport. This inevitably leads to public statements which then leads to questions being asked. It’s the common progression in sports that points to the fact that the end is near.
The old adage in sports is that if an athlete is talking about retirement then they have already retired. At least in a mental capacity.
The hardest part for the athlete is recognizing when the line has been reached so they can walk away gracefully. Everyone wants to find that most opportune time to bow out with their head held high. And no one wants to overstay their shelf life only to be mocked because of it. It can be a fine line to walk.
In this edition of our campground review series we will be reviewing Jim & Mary’s RV Park located in Wye, MT.
This was our first visit to Jim & Mary’s RV Park and it was a place we were super excited about. Many folks on social media RV groups had mentioned this RV park as one of their favorite places in Montana. So we had high hopes and booked a stay for most of June and early July 2023.
Jim & Mary’s RV Park is located off of interstate 90 just outside of Missoula at the exit for US 93. The location is super easy to find and all you really need to do is make sure you turn at the correct street as the signage could be a little confusing.
This was our first stay at Juniper Campground and we booked one full week in May 2023. This stop on our journey was just supposed to be a short layover on our way to bigger things. As it turns out, we might have discovered a hidden gem that we would like to return to some day.
Juniper Campground is located off Idaho state highway 26 which you can catch out of Idaho Falls. Finding the resort isn’t too difficult, but it is a pretty good distance from the time you get off Interstate 15 until you arrive at the campground. Just a heads up, you will also take a country road through farmland down to the campground. It’s paved, but it’s remote. When you are 40 ft long and towing a vehicle getting on the back roads can be a little sketchy. It’s a lot of trust to put into a GPS system that has failed us before. Needless to say, we were extremely happy when we cam around the bend and saw the reservoir and the campground ahead of us.
After being on the road and seeing the country it’s only natural to start asking questions. The biggest question that comes to mind is…. What’s our end game? We love being on the road, but it would be naive to think we can do this forever. Our family would certainly like to know the answer to this question. Some of them think we are crazy for living this way to begin with.
In hindsight, this is probably something we should have considered during the planning phase. But back then we were focused on getting to a better place in life. We have always known that our end game didn’t include staying in a high tax state like California. It was always just a matter of time before we moved somewhere else regardless.
In a way we are just doing what we do best, winging it!
In this edition we will be providing a campground review of Mesa Regal RV Resort which is a 55+ resort located in Mesa, AZ.
This was our first time visiting the resort and we were there for a whopping 5 months. Now, our stated goal in our campground review series is to give an unbiased and unemotional opinion. We want our readers to have information so they can make an informed decision before spending hard earned money booking a site.
In the interest of transparency it should be known that we work-camped at this resort for the duration of our stay. The experience was less than ideal, to put it mildly, and not something we would recommend to our fellow travelers. We have documented that experience here if you would like to read more about it.
In this campground review we will attempt to take a step back from our work-camping experience and focus solely on the resort.
April went by in a flash and it feels like May is shaping up to do the same. It’s hard to believe we are already publishing another financial update! Ever since we left Mesa we have been busy trying to get caught up on projects and hobbies while at the same time getting back to enjoying the things we love like hiking and sightseeing. And since we have family that lives close by we have to make sure we find time to visit and catch up while we can.
Over the last month it has been great to be out in the open air and enjoying nature again and we have tried to get out for a nice size hike at least once a week. The great part about being full-time in our RV is we get to enjoy things while everyone else is busy working and the kids are in school. Often times when we go on hike we are the only people around which allows us to enjoy the views and our surroundings undisturbed. That will begin to change over the next few months so we are trying to take advantage of it while we can. We are hoping to hit Zion National Park before it gets too crowded and we have to leave. It’s been awhile since we have been there and it has some of the best hiking!
