RV Acquired!

We have officially purchased our new RV. Well, new to us at least. More on that in a minute.

If you remember, we previously lived in a 40’ diesel pusher. It was literally a home on wheels. To give you an idea of what we had going on back then, here are some of the features our old rig had to offer.

King bed, 1 1/2 bathrooms, 3 air conditioners, residential refrigerator, 4 burner stove, convection oven, theater seating, 4 big screen TV’s and 3 slide outs that made the living space nice and wide open. It was a pretty sweet setup.

As I said in our last blog, if we are going to do this again we want to do it better and more efficient than last time.

The Best-Laid Plans…………

This quote from Robert Burns pretty much sums up the crossroads we currently find ourselves at. So let’s bring you up to speed as much as it pains me to do so.

Two years ago we made the decision to get off the road full-time and build our dream home where we would live out our lives. It was a crazy transition. The year it took to plan and build our home was absolutely one of the most difficult years we’ve ever had. It was also one of the most exciting years.

Over this past year things have settled down. I felt like we were really starting to get in our groove. I’m the type of person who enjoys hobbies. I have way way too many hobbies. Gardening, guitar, this blog, photography, stock market trading and now options trading just to name a few.

Before you know it spring will be upon us and thus begins RV and camping season. With the huge increase in popularity for RV’s it seems like a good time to put out an updated list of essential items, all of which we use.

We have some items that are standard must-haves and part of owning an RV. Then there are some items that are essential because they make life a little easier and traveling a little more efficient and safer. There is something to be said for practical use and being full-time on the road that has given us a lot of experience in necessities of RV life.

You can find our original list from 2019 here. It’s a good list and while we are including items that are essential, we also strive to include some items that are not typically included on the standard lists people post.

Full-Time Travel Planning

How do you decide where to go? How do you decide where to stay? Isn’t it stressful to have to make plans all the time? Isn’t it expensive?

These are some popular questions we get asked so we thought it would be a good idea to give some insight into our current planning process similar to what we did with full-time budgeting. I say “current planning process” because I feel the process will evolve over time as our circumstances change and as we gain experience with a higher level of comfort on the road.

Full-Time RV Budgeting

One of the most asked questions by people looking to go full-time RVing is “How much does it cost?” The problem with answering this question is it is very subjective as the variables for full-time RV living seem to be unlimited and there is no uniform cookie cutter option when it comes to this lifestyle.

Just asking a few questions will make you quickly realize how much a full-time RV budget can vary between families:

This and That……

It has been a few weeks now since our RV was damaged in a incident at a truck stop. You can read up on that here if you missed it. This has been a major bummer for us as we have had to cancel two trips now and have been stuck at home on weekends. The good news is that we finally got word this week that the repairs are completed and our RV is ready to be picked up.

The worry however, as with any vehicle, is that there will be additional issues that need to be worked out or that some things will not work the same as they did prior to the accident. I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it. Also, our insurance waived our deductible so we are not out of pocket for any money. In the end, we got the best results out of a bad situation and we are grateful for that. Continue reading “This and That……”

Popular Camping Products

In previous blogs we wrote about our favorite gadgets and essentials for your new RV in which we listed items we love using now or have enjoyed using in the past during our travels.

I read a lot of blogs and belong to a lot of RV groups and there are many gadgets and products that are very popular with RV’ers and campers. We thought it would be a fun idea to change it up a little and create a list of these items since they are popular and everyone’s needs are different. Please note that we have not used any of these products. Continue reading “Popular Camping Products”
