RV Life Hits and Misses – Two Years On The Road

As we approach our second anniversary on the road we thought it would be fun to take a moment and reflect on our journey as well as what we left behind. This exercise might also be beneficial to those folks considering taking a similar path by giving them some things to think about before taking the leap into RV living. Make no mistake, life on the road is great and it can be so much fun in the best of times. However, it’s not all roses and at times it will definitely keep you on your toes or have you scrambling to find a solution to problems that arise.

We will preface this by saying that we have absolutely zero regrets about our decision to sell nearly everything we owned in order to enjoy life on the road. But, there are some things that we do miss about living in a regular ol’ sticks n’ bricks home and having a plain life in the suburbs. On the flip side, there are many things that have made those sacrifices well worth it and life more fulfilling too. This is why we recommend people considering this lifestyle sit down and put together a serious list of pros and cons relating to their lifestyle and living situation before taking on this type of adventure.

January 2023 Financial Update

The first month of the new year is already in the books! Hopefully the adage “as goes January, so goes the year” holds true after a nice start to 2023. Obviously there is a long way to go and many hurdles stand in the way of positive returns for the full year, but a good start is always welcome!

As we enter our fourth month in Mesa, AZ it is clear to us that we will never agree to this type of work-camping structure in the future. We covered the different types of work-camping structures, and our current agreement, in our November 2022 Financial Update blog if you would like to take a look back. We won’t rehash all of that here, but let’s just say that the longer we stay here the more obvious it becomes that it’s not worth what we get in return. And the rate increase that took place at the start of the new year is only making matters worse.

Campground Review – Waters Edge RV Resort

Welcome back to another edition of our campground review series! In this edition we will be reviewing Waters Edge RV Resort located in Vinita, OK.

This was our first visit to Waters Edge and it was a location we were really looking forward to visiting as the thought of spending a month on the shores of a beautiful lake sounded wonderful and relaxing! But as we have said before, you never know what you are going to get until you arrive at the campground and get settled. Hopefully this wouldn’t be a case of a skilled professional photographer making a questionable place look like a 5 star resort!

Waters Edge RV Resort is located just south of the famous Route 66 which runs through Vinita, OK. While the resort has a Vinita address it is actually located in the small town of Langley off of SR 82 with the also small town of Ketchum just north of the resort. Both are nice little towns with some local stores, fast food and gas stations, but there isn’t much past that. Vinita is a nice size town and just a short 20 minute drive from the resort. This is where you will find all of your shopping needs during your stay.

October 2022 Financial Update

Greetings from Arizona where we have settled amongst the snowbirds and will be riding out the fall and winter months in the warm desert sun.

In addition to being in a warm location we have started our largest work-camper assignment to date. We made a 5 month commitment at an extremely large RV/Mobile home resort. This is a 55+ resort and by the time December rolls around there will be approximately 3,000 people on site. Our job is in the entertainment / activities department and let me tell you this place has a lot going on and it gets very busy.

Our job involves everything from serving coffee and donuts to residents in the morning to setting up and decorating the entertainment halls for parties or headliner events. The calendar is jam packed every day of the week so we always have something going on. The best part is that we will typically only work 2 or 3 days a week and since we are considered residents we will get to enjoy all of the amenities and events too. And if we work ticketed events we get to enjoy the shows for free so we are hoping to get scheduled for some of the bands and headline events on the schedule.

Campground Review – Parkers Crossroads RV Park

We are back with another edition of our campground review series! In this edition we will be reviewing Parkers Crossroads RV Park located in Yuma, TN.

This was our first visit to Parkers Crossroads and when we made the booking we were looking for a place that would provide some peace and quiet while still within driving distance of Nashville and Memphis. We only booked a two week stay, instead of our usual month or more, as the campground limits monthly bookings during their peak season. This is understandable as there is no need to discount your sites when you fill up every night and can charge the maximum amount for it. As a business person I would do the same thing.

Campground Review – Cummins Ferry RV Resort

In this edition of our campground review series we will be reviewing Cummins Ferry RV Resort located in Salvisa, Kentucky.

This was our first visit to Cummins Ferry and it was one of those places that we hoped would live up to what we saw in the photos while we were researching places to visit. Unfortunately, it is all too common for amazing photos to be posted online that are not always representative of the reality on the ground when you arrive for your stay. And when you are booking for an entire month arriving at some RV resorts and campgrounds can be very stressful because you are not always sure of what you are getting into until you get there and get settled.

To say we were relieved when we came around the bend and saw the resort for the first time, after driving down a long and narrow road towards an uncertain destination, would be an understatement.
