Dividend Portfolio Update

It has been a couple of months since our last dividend portfolio update and we continue to make slow and steady progress. Slow is probably the operative word here since we are now retired and need to adhere to our budget. Just to reiterate we only invest money earned from side hustles, like this blog, as any income earned is not included in our budget and doesn’t impact our standard of living.

As someone that has always been willing and able to put cash to work at a moments notice this can sometimes get frustrating, especially when you see a good stock at a low price. There have been a few times where I have had to walk away some my trading platform on days when I would normally be buying. But we have a plan and we need to stick to it in order to be successful. On the bright side this has given us some incentive to find new side hustles to keep our portfolio growing.

October 2021 Financial Update

October was a very enjoyable month as we did quite a bit of hiking, exploring and met up with some friends that we had worked with at our previous stop in Utah. When we decided to full-time in our RV this was the type of month we envisioned having more often than not as it was fun and productive both personally and financially.

We started the month by visiting local breweries and sampling some great tasting beer. I’m usually a creature of habit but when you go to these places it’s good to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. I did that by trying a blueberry wheat ale and was surprised at how good it was. Definitely something I would have again!

Full-Time RV Budgeting

One of the most asked questions by people looking to go full-time RVing is “How much does it cost?” The problem with answering this question is it is very subjective as the variables for full-time RV living seem to be unlimited and there is no uniform cookie cutter option when it comes to this lifestyle.

Just asking a few questions will make you quickly realize how much a full-time RV budget can vary between families:

September 2021 Financial Update

Well it finally happened, we had a negative return month. This is our first month in the red since January, which is pretty remarkable, and even in January we were barely negative. In fact we would have to look back to October 2020 for the last significant negative month which shows that a correction was probably long over due. Of course everyone, including us, loves to see their portfolio go up month after month but in reality that is not healthy or sustainable. While it’s never fun to see your portfolio decrease, sometimes dramatically, these pullbacks create the opportunity to take up new positions, add to existing positions or to dollar cost average. Plus they are a healthy aspect of a long term investment strategy.

How To Buy Dividend Aristocrat ABBV For A 15% Discount, Or Achieve An 8% Return

We are happy to present our first ever RVF guest post by welcoming Gavin McMaster of Options Trading IQ.

As readers of our blog know we are building a dividend portfolio with the goal of building it to a scale that allows us to sell covered call options to generate income. Gavin uses another approach that can also be used to generate income and/or build a position.

To many of our readers this might be a tool they are already using. But for others, myself included, this is something new and educational that could be useful as we grow our stock portfolio.

I will now turn the blog over to Gavin. Continue reading “How To Buy Dividend Aristocrat ABBV For A 15% Discount, Or Achieve An 8% Return”

Dividend Portfolio Update

We are back with another update on our dividend portfolio. While we continue to make progress our contributions to the dividend portfolio have slowed down and will continue to be low for the foreseeable future. Why? Well because we are retired and we are no longer work camping. Because we no longer have income it was time to revert back to the original purpose of this portfolio which was to invest all proceeds received from this blog through affiliate links and advertising. This is passive income that is not a part of our retirement budget so investing it to grow more passive income through dividends is the way we are choosing to utilize those funds.

Campground Review – Cedar City KOA

(Please note that this campground has been sold and is no longer a KOA as of 12/2021)

Welcome back to another edition of our campground review series. In this edition we will be reviewing one of our longtime favorite campgrounds in Utah, The Cedar City KOA.

Before we start just a disclaimer. This review is going to be a little different than previous reviews as this is a campground we worked at this past Summer and have been invited to work at again next Summer/Fall. Additionally, we have been staying at this campground for almost ten years now and have become friends with the new owners, so we are probably a little bias. None of this however will change our opinion of the campground itself and we are not saying anything in our review that we haven’t already expressed to the owners personally. They are great people and have made vast improvements to the campground with big plans still to come.
